Awhile back my wife read some book that she had checked out at the library which had a passage in it about how fishing can be a form of religion for people. The authors thoughts were that at the core of religion is the need to meditate and spiritually regroup, which happens to many anglers while they are fishing.

Once she read that I played the whole thing to my advantage. If she wants to take the kids to church on Sunday mornings then I should be able to fish on Saturday mornings. The problem is that my "love offerings" to the fish tend to be more (gas, tackle, bait) than the ones that she puts in the passed plate. eek
