I fished the lower lewis R. last weekend out of my 14' v-hull w/a prop. I was able to go as high as the town of woodland from the mouth before it got too shallow for my likes. What I'm wondering is this--What's the best way to fish this area of the river? I tried side drifting (or should I say attempted). And I even tried backtrolling plugs through some of the obvious slots. I didn't anchor up and fish, although there were quite a few people doing that.

My side drifting attempt consisted of running up the side of a drift and then cutting in at the top, killing the outboard and drifting w/the current with my bait just ticking along at the speed I was drifting, not dragging behind me. I'd use my electric motor occasionally to adjust my drift speed. Is this how you guys do this? I never got any obvious bumps. But wasn't really sure if I was doing it right.

Also, do fish hold in this section of river at all, or do they just blast right through it? The water was obviously up, and I'm sure it's a whole different river in the summer.

Thanks for any help.
