I use to have a 95' nissan 4x4 xcab that I pulled my 16 foot willie around with for 3 years. It did just fine but i did have to use 3rd or 4th gear on some hills. And driving into a good headwind will keep you at the posted speed limit. On the flats it did just great. Even better if I had a full load in the bed, tonneu would be equivalent. The wind drag kills ya more than the weight. I pulled my drift boat about 4000 miles a year with that truck. with all my trips to the coast and to Idaho. The only other downer i can think of is gas milage dropped to about 10-12mpg towing normally i got 18mpg. V6 would pull it better up the hills. but I can count the number of bad spots in this state on two hands where i had to downshift.
