Thanks everyone so far for the input ... not too worried about overall page speed at the moment 'cuz many of the images weren't optimized yet and were many times larger than they would be in the finished version.

I'm in the process of relaying the tables on the page to see if the menu system lays out without the minor tweeks we've seen. I'll also change the font to see how that works out as it is very crisp on my desktop and fuzzy on the laptop
