I personally use a stationary lead exactly like what I do driftfishing. I don't like the sliding lead because when your fishing lower water and using small amounts of lead and cast the lead sometimes slides up line and doesn't land where you want it to. Besides if your using the typical boondogging leader 48-60" you have enough leader slack that when a fish picks it up he don't feel the stationary lead anyways.
Also, forget the slinkies and go with lead. Get yourself a set of holepunchers and punch your lead and attach that to the snapswivel. Slinkies drag and lead ticks and gives you a better feel of what your fishing.
