Hey, all...

I have limited experience with braids, except for bottom fishing, so I've got a few questions.

I've just geared up with a new rod and reel for springer fishing. Up until now I've always used my steelhead gear, which works fine until I actually try to land a hot springer from the bank. So...I've got new heavier gear.

I've spooled up my new reel with forty or fifty yards of 30 pound maxima UG, followed by a full spool of 20 pound Fireline. When fishing floats, I don't anticipate many problems. It's drifting that I'm in need of some tips for...

First, I'm concerned about abrasion resistance, so should I use an additional shock leader rather than attach the Fireline directly to my weight? If so, how long and what knot should I use? I used a standard blood knot to attach the line to the backing, and it seemed to be pretty strong. I couldn't break it, at least.

That's all...thanks in advance.

Fish on...

Todd.
