Took a fellow member DanS fishing out in the ocean during the holiday and had some good fishing.
First of all, It was a pleasure to fish with a guy like Dan that knows his stuff.....none of that,"can you tie my hooks stuff". Dan you are welcome anytime, just give me a ring, I try to hit Westport every Sunday.
Now for the report, the water was very lumpy and rough and the wind was almost unbearable, but fishing was still good. Since it was too windy for us to mooch, which I like best, we opted for the Scotty downriggers.
We caught many kings on that trip releasing many to boot. Our largest fish on my boat was in the mid twenties, with plenty of teeners to go around. Fish have been running deeper this year than last with most caught in the 75 to 80 range. Most fish caught have been Kings with the silvers running kinda small so far.
We have been running about 18 to 20 miles out and have fished in up to 245 feet of water. My bait of choice is green label herring, but anything will work. My buddy was using a hotspot and baitbuster lure exclusively on his boat and boated one fish that was in the high 30's....he did not even bring bait.
If you can handle the water....head on out. If some of you are looking for a ride, send me an E-mail and if I have an open seat...I may ask you to join me, all I ask is to pay your fair share for gas and bait, etc.
Hope this helps a few of you out, I have attached a picture of a couple Kings.
