Krijack, you pose a very interesting question. The low hanging fruit answer is "Of course the immigrants make America better!" We are, after all, a nation of immigrants - even the Natives came here from somewhere else. The rub comes when we talk about the illegal immigrants. Do the vast majority work very hard? Absolutely. Do they embody "family values"? No question. However, when a lot of the money that they earn leaves the country, it is a net loss for us. I have not made up my mind as to how to solve the problem, Lord knows there are plenty of options being kicked around, but we have let the problem grow so big, most of our options are limited and not very effective. I am probably closer to Bush's position that any other, although he seems quite reluctant to impose the stiff penalties on those that are making the big bucks off the illegal immigrants. But your question is a good one and it got me thinking.
