The bait, you know oily fish in roe bags?

I always kind of scoffed at the idea of using anything besides roe in roe bag...but since being prompted by a buddy to try them I've started to kind of like them for fishing hatchery springers.

I've been fishing them under a slip float...

Is there an easy way to assemble the baits? I've just been putting a pile in each bag and gathering the top edges, wrapping thread super tight around the excess roe bag and half hitching the thread...

...easy to explain, much harder and more to time consuming to actually do than I'd like. Any hints on assembling baits?
