I have been a photog for years and shot for several newspapers and freelanced a few years back. Went completely digital 2 years ago and have yet to shoot a roll through my AE1 or F4 since changing over. I currently use an Olympus E-10 and have been extremely please with it. Keep in mind one thing. Megapixels are not the big factor as most think. It is just the latest buzzword that gets people to buy the camera. Always look for the TRUE or useful megapixels, as it is often exaggerated to boost sales. Secondly, remember that no matter how many MP it is, they are only as good as the CCD and lens that is on the camera. Pics may look good as 4 X 5, but blow them up to 8 X 10 and they can get pretty pixelated (grainy).
Buy as much camera as you can afford, you will not regret it. Also, keep in mind that if you use a inkjet or laser printer, the photos will fade pretty quickly (couple of years) and they will blotch just from the moisture in the air. I have an Olympus P400 that is a dye sublimation printer.... It actually burns the color onto the medium and is then sealed.. It is continuous tone (no dots), and waterproof. The color is not supposed to fade for 30+ years. People that look at my 8 X 10s swear they are real photo prints.
I cannot stress enough to stay away from the auto focus cameras in digital format. They do NOT focus fast enough for the Sturgeon or whale jump, etc. Make sure that what you buy has manual and autofocus or you will miss that shot of a lifetime, I guarantee it.
Hope this helps all!
Good Luck!
