PD ... No "request" per the ADF&G that I've seen.

Releasing large halibut is a good idea ... had mine been more than a few punds larger that I have pictured in the other thread, I would have kicked mine back. In actuality, 100 lbs. is gnerally considered the cut-off point for the female breeders.

Releasing large halibut has become fairly commonplace in SE Alaska waters, but is actually quite rare in Sothcentral waters. Clients are usually brought up to speed on trheir life cycles while fishing ... but in a fishery that is pretty much 99% meat fishing, bigger the better for most.

It's funny looking at the general attitudes in this area. Most have little trouble releasing large trout and nearly all steelhead are mandated C&R ... but halibut die period, and it's almost that time of year where any AK resdient can come down to the Kasilof mouth and place set gillnets for reds and kings. A few weeks later, they'll use giant dipnets on both Kenai and Kasilof Rivers from both shore and boats to scoop up fish.

It's a strange place smile

Personally, I'd love to see an official slot limit in place ... but until that day, and in our proximity to Anchorage, I don't think you'll see many released.
