first off you need to spell steelhead properly i don't know what other experience fishing you have so i would suggest reading a few books bill herzogs color guide to steelhead drift fishing will give some insight to where in the rivers to fish what to use what kind of rods and reels and what methods to use which ever method or methods you choose will dictate what kind of gear you purchase you could also go to sportco in tacoma and talk to him I'm sure he would sell you some gear and get you headed in the right direction another way would be to hire a good guide or just go to the coast and talk to fisherman on the river most are willing to share imfo if your willing to listen as for driving to the coast from kitsap county to fish for the day its roughly a six hour round trip or more i usually like to spend a night or two the one day red eye runs don't give you enough time to enjoy yourself good luck
