Yep, that was ¾ copper tubing!

It's strong and you can braze or soldering the wire, hinges and latch right to it. It will also catch birds, but usually only the single bird that walks onto the trip plat. I catch lots of rabbits by using apples or lettuce leafs. The trap used to look a lot better, until I loaned it to one of friends. His friend then proceeded to back his truck over it and make it look like a bail of wirer! It took a couple of hours of repair work to get it back into shape again, so that the door would slam shut and lock. It's not the "best looking" trap anymore, but it still works great!
