As mentioned, salmon fishing is prohibited upstream of Marblemount. However, just because something is allowed doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Humpies that are bright, good eating (for humpies), and abundant beyond belief in the lower 48 state can be had in the lower Skagit River. I cannot fathom why anyone would want to fish for them when their condition is deteriorating. You can catch a bright humpy at Hamilton or even Rockport, but they are not even close to the quality you'll catch downstream of SW.

Yes, you can catch humpies anywhere in the Skagit, but for a quality experience, and a quality fish, I recommend fishing the lower river.
