NEN,

Very nice, indeed!

Was kinda thinking Salmo or some other currently practicing biologist would jump in here to illuminate us on your "BM". Although I haven't "practiced " for a long time, this is my read for what it is worth:

A blackmouth generally refers to an "immature" chinook salmon. Although this would typically include sexually immature fish, it does not necessarily include sexually undeveloped or underdeveloped fish. Just because a steroid saturated super athlete has shruken gonads doesn't make him less a grown man and more a boy. He would still be considered mature, even if lacking in some areas. Your salmon may even be bigger than usual because his energy went to more biomass and less to sexual development. But even if he was a "late bloomer" and holding on for another year till sexual maturity, I doubt he would be considered a blackmouth by most. Maybe a spring, if not a king (by Canandian standards that is).

But blackmouth, spring or king, call it what you want, I call it a slab.

Congrats.
