They're a collector's item but they're also a great spinning reel. I own a bunch of them, including the Cardinal 3, 4, 6, and 7. I've been using the C4 since I bought my first in 1972 (at the age of 14) and I've been using them ever since. The drag is unbelievable. The only downside is the lack of spare parts. They stopped making them in about 1984 so it's tough to get replacement parts.

Are there better spinning reels out there at a better price? Sure, plenty. Shimano makes several. But they're just spinning reels. They ain't a collector's item. Sorta like having a 1964 Mustang in your driveway. Does Ford make better, safer cars? Sure. But for anyone who's first car was a 1964 Mustang, it's priceless.
