Depends on what your using. My first steelie dang near jerked the pole right out of my hand(hard to miss that strike). I was using a spoon and they always hit those hard. Now if your bouncing bait its a different story. If your not set up right (too much weight for example) you'll probably never even feel the pickup most of the time.
