Not only is August and September already full of opportunity what with the summer runs and crabbing, but I can see a lot of fishermen that are already on the water thinking, what the h__l, let's go bag a Ling now that we have our limits of salmon/crab. Think of all the new rockfish by-catch and mortality this would include.

I think the May/June season restricts the number of people targeting them, and hence protects this particular threatened resource. It also gives me an excuse to go spend Memorial Day weekend camping on Stuart Island
