I have one and have been very happy with it so far. The sonar is excellent. I can see my downrigger cable on it and I even saw my jig fluttering up and down on it once while I was fishing the Tulalip bubble. Bait schools show up well and it reads clear up to the 25kmph that my boat can do. It reads well down to 500' so the sound and straits are no problem.

I've used the GPS plotter a few times but am not as familiar with it as I probably should be. The only problem I had was when it kept losing the sattelites at Neah Bay once over the summer. I think a loose power cable may have been the culprit as it worked fine from then on out.

I'm not sure if AK has the models confused or not, but the 240 doesn't have a map. It is a plotter only. Sure it's not top 'o the line, but it doesn't cost $1000 either.

If you use it inland to plot holes on rivers, lakes or anything like that, be aware that it loses the sattelite signal pretty frequently due to hills and trees etc.

Overall, I'd rate it an excellent unit, especially for the price.

p.s. Mine is on my 14' Smokercraft, and I think it's perfect for smaller boats.
