My personal e-mail to the Coastal Caucus...

To the Legislators of the Coastal Caucus:

Disgruntled recreational fishermen in Grays Harbor staged a protest over the weekend to voice their concerns about how they were short-changed by the WDFW for the 2007 salmon season. Recreational anglers in this area are sick and tired of settling for crumbs while three separate gillnet fisheries (Quinault, Chehalis, and non-tribal) in the Chehalis Basin are given the lion’s share of the harvest allocation. We are already the minority user of the resource, and over the years, all we get in return is diminished opportunity in the form of ever-shorter seasons to wet a line.

I have been personally involved in the Grays Harbor Salmon Harvest Management Task Force for the past three years. It is both frustrating and discouraging to see the recreational user’s conservation and allocative concerns repeatedly ignored year after year. The WDFW’s disconnect with its recreational constituency has never been greater. We need YOUR help.

Sincerely yours,
