My suspicion is that the radical 2nd Amendment interpretors amongst us will find this heinous, that unsuspecting, and unsuspected gun owners are being looked at merely because they own a Glock .40, not because there is any evidence whatsoever that they have participated in any crimes whatsoever, gun crimes or otherwise.
Am I right?
I bet I'd also be right that these very same offended folks do not find any problem whatsoever with racial profiling, especially of folks of Arab descent, or blacks, even though they, too, are unsuspecting and unsuspected people who are are being looked at because of their race, not because there is any evidence whatsoever that they have participated in any crimes whatsoever.
Am I also right on this?
The fuzz never would have been able to get a warrant to demand to see everyone's gun, so that's why they had to do it on a voluntary basis...I hope they're smart enough to not be too suspicious of those who choose not to participate, for whatever reason they choose...if they want to think someone is guilty of something, they better have enough evidence to get a warrant and go and seize the gun.
Oh, by the way...the Patriot Act makes it much easier for the cops to "sneak and peek" at these gun owners homes and guns, even without a warrant...and as heinous as this crime was, no one in their right mind would ever call the perp a terrorist.
My third guess is that the same folks who would be pissed about that are also folks who think that the Patriot Act is a good idea, and don't mind giving up the rights of others to "protect the Homeland"...they just didn't think it would ever come home to roost.
Profiling, sneak and peek invasions of privacy...they look a lot different when your demographic is on the block, don't they?
Fish on...
