Relief checks sent to salmon fishermen

Wednesday, October 01, 2008 | 11:06 PM Emergency relief checks were mailed Wednesday to hundreds of salmon fishermen on the West Coast.

The federal government is handing out $100 million to help fishermen affected by the closure of this year's salmon fishing season.
About 500 people have asked for relief so far.
The fishermen will be paid for half of their losses this year, up to $225,000.
Fishermen who have not applied for emergency aid have until December to due so.
