So here is an intelligent response...sort of.
Can a WDFW biologist explain to me the "BIOLOGICAL" effect of changing this season? What SCIENTIFIC benfits of changing this season can be gained? It sounds to me as if someone is overstepping their bounds in suggesting this change.
I called and requested to get a copy of the report from WDFW enforcement on the woman who was shot by the teenaager while bear hunting last August. My request was denied due to the fact that it was an ongoing investigation.
What happened was horrible, not only for the woman and her family, but also for the young man and his family. To say this was a life changing event for all would be an understatement.
Many questions go unanswered, and few details have been released, only snippets, especially when compared to other firearms related deaths. Some reports say she was wearing a blue jacket, others say she was putting it away. Some say it was foggy or misty, others say it was clear. Some reports say the range was 100+ yards, while the officer I talked to said it was less. In every murder case out there, we get all of the gruesome details. In this case, few details.
To make a kneejerk reaction to something that hasn't been through the court procees yet is bullsh!t and asshattery. Where on earth is the absolute outrage against elderly drivers who kill and maim people EVERY DAY in our state? Why isn't there a law that requires who reach the age of 70 to take a driver's test EVERY year? The damage caused by this segment of the population is much more harmful to society that the act of one 14 year old boy, yet the bumblers in Olympia decide they need to act on this. Ridiculous.
Across the State, how many incidental shootings are there every year during hunting season? 1, maybe as many as 3. Horrible in any instance, but compared to other pursuits, hunting is a VERY safe pursuit, provided you are not the intended game. Weigh that against the damage that is done every day by elderly drivers, across the State, and across the nation for that matter. The death toll is in the thousands EVERY YEAR! Where is the outrage and the legislation? I had a guy of 70+ decide today that he needed to be where I was, and he moved into my lane on Hwy 101 outside of Olympia. Old fart even left his blinker on for a mile after I informed him that I was already in the lane with my horn.
I say that we propose legislation where everybody from a city of 15,000 people or more be required to purchase a permit to get off the pavement and head into the woods. How many "Seattle" hikers die every year in the mountains? Where is the legislation to protect these "REI Rangers" from themselves? There ought to be a law!
Fawking asshattery, and complete and utter bullsh!t, I say. (Sorry, I had to be me.)
