As usual, I'd rather be lucky than good any day, but good luck is a probability based outcome. And it runs out from time to time.
I attended a meeting in Seattle last night, and instead of parking in the usual parking lot, which is free if I remember to have the restaurant mark the ticket, I saw an empty space on the street that must have been all of 100 feet closer to where I was going. It was 5:00.
At 10:00 PM I found the front passenger side window smashed in and my briefcase and a small backpack I take fishing missing. Lost my notebook computer and digital camera, along with an assortment of other stuff, files, flash drives with data and documents, my day planner with phone numbers and addresses, my check book, employee ID and two office building card keys, and probably some things I won't remember until I need them.
Filed a police report, talked to insurance, credit union, auto glass, fraud alert - just in case, so I think I've covered the necessary bases. The financial loss is less than $1,000 I think, but the P.I.T.A. may last a while longer. Not to mention driving from Seattle to Oly with a busted out window wasn't the best, but at least it didn't rain.
Hope the luck returns and I go another 10 or 20 or more years before that happens again. Sheesh!
