I actually like the fact that I can apply for a cow tag without loosing my points for a bull. When you can wait 10 or more years for a tag that is no guaranty, but is still your only chance at a branch animal, it is nice to be able at least take some meat once or twice in your life. I have some co-workers that waited forever for their coveted muzzle loader tags. This was an area they had hunted for over 30 years and know well. In the end, they never saw one elk the entire season. Pretty pathetic. Now they get to wait another 10 years and hope to look again. My opinion would be different if I thought the trophy tags actually had a very good chance of paying off, but any many areas I don't think the odds are actually that good.
