The term "noodle", to me, implies light power and slow action. The XST's are fast action rods, with varying power. None of them are noodle rods. That said, there are those who prefer a moderate action for float fishing due to the various weighting/float systems (fewer tangles) and the gentleness with which they can cast bait. Also, you don't need the sensativity of a fast tip, at least not in fast water. Regarding your choices, the lighter rod will have an advantage in casting smaller floats and jigs more easily. It will probably hook more steelhead, under more conditions, than the heavier rod.
