Same here. Besides basic obetiant training I did very little bird training. I figure the dog know more about bird hunting instinctivly then I'll ever know. I like to say I'm going for a walk but my pup is hunting. That holds true whether I'm carrying a shotgun or not.

I also agree about going solo at first for two reasons. 1st off the older dogs may not be to friendly to a playing pup when they are in "business" mode. And secondly pups seem to ignore any good lessons they may learn from more experianced dogs and focus in on and "hardwire" the bad lessons.
