If there's any good news about this, it's that the death toll has not exceeded the order of hundreds as yet, which seems almost miraculous to me after watching the live footage of the tsunami moving inland last night (and considering the population density of Japan). It was horrific. The last time I watched something on TV that made me feel that way was 9/11. I fully expected that we would be talking about thousands upon thousands of deaths.

And yes, as secondary in importance as it seems right now, this will not do much good for the world economy. For now, let's count our blessings and hope our coastline doesn't sustain any serious damage.
