Any ban on profiling is a bad idea. Profiling is an efficient method of sorting and catagorizing large quantities of data, useful in the same way stratifying data in statistical analysis. Are we going to ban statistics next?

Statistics are useful in describing where crimes occur. Profiling can help us identify other areas similar to those where most crimes occur to estimate the likelihood of crimes happening there in the future, and if more police action could prevent it.

Profiling doesn't violate the 4th Amendment Harley. It's not quite the same as when police stop a car because the motorist was guilty of "driving while black."

As for the convicted cop killer being at the signing ceremony, it appears he wasn't exactly that, given that cops burst unannounced into the clubhouse, and the killer shoot at the intruders, who happened to be cops who did not announce, did not have a search warrant, and were carrying drugs to plant in the clubhouse. That falls into the category of a planned tragedy.
