That's a good read...but is severely colored by the "source" and his interpretations. Using the same facts, but coloring them differently, it could be easily be said that those hired by the POTUS to do their jobs did exactly that, including shielding him from the political fallout if things go sideways...and making sure he gets the credit if it works.

Besides doing the actual work, that's a pretty important part of their job, too.

Anyone think that Reagan knew what was going on during the Iran/Contra scandal? How about George H.W. Bush? While all the ones who did take the heat, especially Colonel North, are felons who committed serious crimes, there's no way they did it freelance...but they did the other part of their job, which is to shield the POTUS from liability, and fall on the sword for their boss.
