If they don't have to be channel cats, you can catch brown bullheads from virtually every lake in western Washington. Most run about a pound, sometimes topping two or three. They don't fight much, don't taste as good as channel cats, but they're easy to catch on a nightcrawler/bobber rig. They seem to bite best during the first two hours of darkness and the last hour or so before daylight, especially after a few days of warm weather. You might be surprised how many of them you can find in some of your local lakes.
