Most criminal laws prevent very little...and the same people who champion your gun rights are the same ones who are very un-interested in prevention and rehabilitation
What are your ideas on prevention and rehabilitation?
The simple answer is that where the studies show that rehab creates citizens, and retribution creates rescidivism, we ought not worry too hard about retribution, and should focus more on rehabilitation.
That's if you want to prevent crime, that is. If you just want to send more and more to prison, then by all means just up the sentences.

I know that you dumbed down your answer that I might possibly be able to understand at least part of it. For that I say thanks. Who's looking for retribution? And, what type of rehabilitation would help reduce gun violence?
If we're talking about minorities and crime, have you ever considered looking at the community leaders who continually blame everybody but the person who committed the crime? Or, is still just the rich white guys who are to blame? At some point, does personal accountability become an issue? I know it does for me. Or, should I just go ahead and be complete F'n a-hole and blame it on my great, great grandfather?
