The facts about the growth of spending under Obama
If you go back and actually read the article I linked to (dated 1 June), you'll see that it is actually about the article you linked to (dated 25 May). You should also notice that referenced there is another article (linked here) that refutes the articles by The Washington Post and AP.

The update, dated 31 May, states that under the current administration, Federal spending has risen "slower than at any time in nearly 60 years." What is most controversial is how to account for the spending in 2009 when the economy was in free fall. But even if considering fiscal year 2009 spending that is either clearly or arguably Obama's (the simulus, the CHIP expansion, TARP, etc.), "it would only raise Obama’s average annual spending increase from 1.4 percent to somewhere between 3.4 percent and 4.9 percent." That is still below the previously mentioned administrations.

So I didn't just rely on Nutting's report; I also relied on The Wall Stree Journal, the Tampa Bay Times (PolitiFact.com), and The Fiscal Times.
