Inslee's attack ad is correct in that the tax-swap concept endorsed by McKenna almost certainly would cause taxes in some places to go up.

But Inslee is off the mark in dismissing the idea as a mere gimmick with no benefit to schools. And he gets extra demerits for offering no credible alternative.

For those reasons, we rule Inslee's claims half true.

Inslee apparently doesn't grasp the very simple idea that since the State was "convicted" of shucking its responsibilities, the end result HAS to be increased taxes for schools. There is no getting around it. McKenna's plan at least distributes the impact equitably. I have seen nothing from Inslee but posing.
McKenna is the clear choice if one is interested at all in getting a fair shake from the State.
