Greetings: have been float fishing for several years...Have had considerable success with rods from 10.5 to 12.5 feet.
I tend to perfer a mediun light rod, such as, the Sage 3113MB. I have landed 20lb'Steelhead and a 43 lb king with this combo.
I tend to run with a 15lb main and a 10lb leader.
Your arm strain will lessen if you try a slow underhand cast and try to visualize where the float will land. try to keep the float size down to about a 5 inch 3/4" ..should be ok for most conditions... your Lamiglass may also make a great spoon rod,I'm currently using a 10.5 ft GL-3, as a combination float rod/spoon rod. tight lines
