Take it from a smoker who wishes he wasn't, it doesn't seem to make any difference. I've tried to quit on several occassions over the past 10 years or so; gone as long as 6 mo without a smoke. Whether I'm smoking a pack a day or not, it doesn't seem to affect fishing. I've got a friend who says he's seen a steelhead roll on a butt floating on top. I'm sure steelhead can smell the damn things, I just don't think they care.

I've also heard the king thing--that they're really sensitive to scents. Maybe so, but I haven't had enough varied experience with king fishing to have an opinion. Steelhead, I do.
