Depending on the study (low / mid / high estimates), a good middle ground average is about 1 million DGU's per year. The FBI stats are in that same ballpark.

Here's some additional ballparked stats. I'm too lazy to link everything, so you if disagree, then by all means use Google.

33K gun deaths per year.
20K are suicides
1K are accidental
10K are homicides
5K of homicides are committed by minorities (black on black street crime et al.)

When you remove Suicides, accidents and gangbangers, the US becomes one of the safest countries in the world.

If just 10% of all DGU's resulted in deaths (by removal of DGU's) that's 100K dead people that could not defend themselves. This is equates to a 900% increase in gun deaths by removing the right to bear arms for defensive purposes.

Guns save FAR more lives than they take.
