Paul, I think that the chum runs are a little late this year. There was a pretty good push of fish from my local rivers early in the year. Depending on how low your river was this year might have something to do with it. When the water is very low and clear pretty much all fish that were in the river will turn and head back down to the ocean or hold in the deeper holes. I have seen it happen. One of my friends that worked in Alaska turned me on to this. He said while fishing for reds up there if the river was too low and clear the fish would turn. On low tide they would string there nets out at the mouth of the rivers and would have a full nets by the time the tides change. Very interesting! Just a thought.

just curious, Whatcom creek is still opened to fishing? I figured after the blast they would close things down for a while and allow it to rebuild.
I lived up there until june of 99.

Just found out that our native American fishing brethren are "supposed" to quit netting the local river (Nooksack) and Bellingham Bay due to low returns of Chums.

Steelhead Addict,

The creek itself is still closed to fishing. The mouth of the creek at the hatchery is still open to fishing. Actually had a nice return of Kings this year.

Paul , i have never fished up north, but down south here we have a couple of small streams, i mean the one ifish mostly for chums has only 500 yards of fishing space available at high tide, and at high tide you can not fish 75% of it because it is under water.
We had a real slow start but the last 2 1/2 weeks have been great. I was limiting out in an hour or less, usually with 2 nice fat hens, full of fairly tight eggs.
The first part of the run was mostly big buck's, just brusiin for something to get in the way.
The bad thing for us, is these little waters close thursday. The next water for us will not have any fish till, actually about now with the rain, if the water clears enough for to see more than 6 inch's.

Good luck
