I am looking for a new reel. Prefer the push button releases like the Shimano Bantams or the Quantam 1311 in an open face reel, not a round one, and I am not a fan of the thumb bar release like on the Curado. Is anyone else as finkicky as I am? Does anyone else have a preference? Any Ideas?
Merry Christmas
Randy

no one is as finicky as you are...just kidding! I prefer the thumb bar, it allows me to thumb the spool easier if I screw up (which is a constant).

I use one thumb motion to release the spool and set up for thumbing the reel. I just got used to doing it that way.

I also used to use right hand reels and now have switched to left hand. It feels wierd at first but now I don't switch hands when drift fishing. Try the thumb bar....try it with a left handed reel (if you're right handed)...it is a better set up..

I wouldn't use anything but a thumb bar if I'm drift fishing for steelhead. One hand casting is hard to beat(so's a Curado). I would suggest trying one out. I also have a Quantum 1310MG with the thumb bar built into the side and it might be more to your liking. It casts light weight nicely(has magnetic anti-backlash adjustment). It's a few years old so I don't know if they still sell that model.

I can't think of anything that would be better than a Curado! If there is let me know - Bill

Hey Randy, turn you're shorts around put the zipper in the front and step up to a thumb bar (jk)
Choices for what you're looking for a getting far and few between,
speaking of curados ,I thinking of adding one to my collection I don't want the standard model with the 6.2-1 retrieve I see they also make a 5-1 curado I think thats the one for me,well see how it stands up ,my old Calcutta is hard to beat...Os

Been using my classic Ambassadeurs for 30 years, with no complaints. They're all right hand cranks, never could get used to the feel of port-side handles on casting reels. I don't switch hands until the end of the drift (or the hookset because I "feel" better with my right hand. I also have a much better hookset righty than southpaw!

Hey bill, the Curado is a nice reel but if you can try the Calais it is even better, I don't use my Curado anymore. Any one have a chance at the new Eon from Abu ?
