Looking for a way to carry my rods in the boat while I'm towing it, any ideas? Thanks.

My buddy does that (and also the Big One). My friend has a piece of 1 X 5 fir about 12" long with 3 holes drilled in it. Then some spongy insulation is glued in the hole making it a little smaller then the butt diamter of a rod. He has this mounted to the back end of the forward seat on either side of the boat.
The rear seat, on the rear end, he has 12" of 1 X 5 fir 12" long that has slots cut into it and the same foam glued in so that the rod tips need to be jammed in.
The rods sit in the boat with the butt forward, held by the foam/wood holders and are suspended in foam.
The Big One has a similar set up in his boat but it came from the manufacturer that way (at least it is not made of wood.... )

Don't do it, have you ever looked in the rear view mirrow while towing the drift-boat down a back road like the queets road? Or if you were in the take out vehicle, seen the trailer bouncing like crazy. We sometimes bring a mountain bike and I can tell you that even when we bungie it down, it takes a beating. Just my opinion....and I am getting that winter-run itch right about now. Wonder why I have been having trouble sleeping these last few nites, but it has been good for making those extra slinkies and getting the gear re-organized.

I do it for short distances, a mile or two. No big deal with the plastic holder with foam inserts that I have. Long distance, no way. There is more to worry about than rods bouncing around and road film in the reels.
I was towing my Willie boat up to the Sauk last St. Patrick's day and a guy ran a stop sign at 60 mph and hit my car and my boat. The boat flew off the trailer and flipped several times before it came to rest on the side of the road. Everything in the boat was spread out all over the street from the impact. The trailer was in pieces and four feet of trailer tongue was all that was still attached to my trailer hitch. Luckily, all of my rods were in the Jeep and nothing inside the car was damaged except for me and my passenger. Any rods that I had in the boat obviously would have been destroyed. I may have been out of a boat for a while but at least my gear was spared. Just something to think about as s**t happens.
