There may be many points between communism and Trump, but I have yet to hear the available democratic candidates voice them. Both sides tend to cater to the extremes.
I went to the a state republican meeting a few years back and listened to how they think. They were putting forth their agenda for running for governor, and decided to put forth either the exact or almost exact platform they had been defeated on 4 years earlier. Much of the agenda was stuff that would not or could not be affected by local government (like outlawing abortion). Of course, their Candidate lost by a much higher percentage than the previous election.
