Trout Fisherman's Bible by Dan Holland.
Hands down.
I read the words right off the pages of that one, spent many an hour looking at the classifc b&w pics and dreaming of excellent adventures of my own.

Kind of a nuts/bolts reader, so the poetic stuff was never my thing as a young man.
Sosin and Kreh put out some really good technical books back in the day.

Lakes of Washington, Vol 1, Western Washington by Ernest E. Wolcott
Over 600 pages devoted to the puddles, ponds and lakes of western Washington. Many topo maps and black and white aerial photos of lakes along with descriptions that include location, elevation, acreage, maximum depth and fish species present. My 1961 copy of this book is a paperback published by the Dept of Conservation. Approaching 60 yrs of age, it is almost a loose leaf collection of pages now. It's an historical record of how our lowland lakes looked before shoreline development, and how many high lakes looked before the mountains surrounding them were logged.
Lakes of Washington has been one of my favorite reference books.

"Fishing the Oregon Country" can't remember the author, but the book was from the 50s or 60s.
"Fish On!" by Enos Bradner. He had another old book detailing Washington State places to fish I can't remember the name.
"Steelhead Drift Fishing" by Bill Luch(?)
"Sea Run" by Les Johnson
"Trout Fisherman's Digest" Which came out in the 70's, many articles including one about catching trout, not specifically steelhead, on bobber/jig way before it became popular.

The original "Fly Fishing for Pacific Salmon" by Les Johnson, Pat Trotter and Bruce Ferguson. I also like Les Johnson's original "Fly Fishing Coastal Cutthroat Trout".
I have the original as well as the updated versions of both books. SF

My dad had a book from the 40s or 50s, hardbound, about flyfishing. Little thing, but really funny. Got lots over the years. Also had, and I still have it, a rather massive reference for all things fishing. The species, the gears, kind of an encyclopedia of fishing.
Since, in school, I read the Encyclopedia Brittanica for fun, this was great way to learn all things esoteric about angling.

How could I have left out the Cuanangs!! Those guys almost got killed out of the golden gate one year. What happened? These two were the best Bay Area fishermen IMHO. They had it dialed. Haven’t heard from them in years.

"Western trout fly-tying manual" by Jack Dennis, 1980. Was kind of a Bible of "how to" back then. internet has 20 times the information now, but there's just something about the old black and white photos, and paper that the internet just can't reproduce. Every time I go to toss it out, it goes back on the shelf. Have not looked at it in years! Nostalgia: Something the Internet will never have. That book was how I taught myself to tie flies. I about wore it out. Though I would have guessed it came out before 1980. Around that same time, I loved Stan Fagerstrom's "Catch More Steelhead". It worked.

Haven’t heard from them in years. From what I remember they were headed outside the golden gate in weather they had no business going out in ,small craft advisory type stuff, wind and big swells. tried to turn around and got in trouble,I don't remember if it was both brother or just one of them, pretty sure they either had to get rescued or barley made it back alive on their own. The ocean can be unforgiving even for the most stalwart of us.
