I was wondering which is the best bait cast real for around $100-$150

Shimano Curado $119-$129 my favorite for upto 12# test

Shimano Curado cu-200 is one great real for that amount of money.

Buy two and get an okuma! These are the best reels on the market, but new and looking for business.

i hate to sound like broken record, but the shimano curado is a great reel. i just bought one, and it cast like a dream.

Jim, I'll have to try one of Okuma's baitcasters. I have one of their Sierra flyreels and love it. Nice drag, holds plenty of backing, and priced right.

Curado!!! I have 2. I used to like my calcutta a lot, but for $50 less you get a reel that picks up line quicker, has more room for your thumb (also easier to get to the occasional nest), warmer on cold days, easier to change the centifugal weights, and is equally smooth. The only thing the calcutta has is its traditional great looks. But I can't justify spending more on a less functional reel.

tried buying another today at Sportco but they are out of the left hand 6.1:1 ratio. to bad. these reels are so nice and easy to cast. even a person who has never cast a level wind can catch on in just a bit.

put them on a long rod and you can cast along way!!!! just be sure to keap them FULL of line.

I just bought a Okuma steelhead rod. havnt used it much but it seemed pretty nice for the price.

If this is your first baitcasting reel i suggest you try one with a left hand reel. i cant cast left handed and with a right hand reel i have to switch hands all the time.

Ditto all the comments on Curado.....Have 2, over 10 yrs. fish silvers, steelheads but have caught kings and "dogs". Have a great drag system, can get them in left or right hand models and 2 different gear ratio's. Have never had any trouble with either......Price is $119.95 everywhere new..have seen on EBAY for less.

Since replacing my stuuf I settled on the Curado also,
has anyone besides me opted for the 5:1to1 retreive over the 6:2to1,very smooth and casts great and on my new 1143# is a great combo,I'm not ready to retire my Calcuta just yet,I need more testing,and few really stuborn nates...os

Ya, I have two with 5 to 1 gear ratios. I was told the 6 to 1 was more for the bass fisher. Never had a problem with them. They are little cheeper yet than the 6to1's also.

I didn't notice a difference in price between the two but nobody stocks the 5:1 to 1,I had you order mine,
one of my partners fishes a citica and claims it's a better reel,I didn't think so was I wrong?

ok this is my 2 bits on the 2 ratios. the 5 is for bass dudes who like a slower action when pulling in the crank baits. the 6 is for us who like to fish theese big crazy fish that like to be 50 yrds away one second and the next second they wanna jump in our laps. now I like the 6 because I can pick up that slack line really fast. as a matter of fact I havn't had a slack line yet with it. ben really close a few times but they didn't get me. now I was thinking that the 5 ratio would maybe be good on a spinner rod for that slower action on a spinner.

Os. hows it going? I've been bizzy but that little mud trickle over the hill from you is sapose to have some fish starting in it. they saposably heated up a bit this weekend. havn't had the chance to get down and wet a line. our septic is giving us trouble AGAIN. If we get the problem fixed soon I am going to try and hit it for a few min. before dark iether thursday or Friday. going to bring some Orange corkies and green yarn.

I don't know if I have yer other E-mail address so if you can shoot me one I'll write you a little more.

I did get my first Elk in late season. HUGE cow. 80 yrds and she was down in less than 30 yrds!!!!!

Shimano makes a good reel, you might consider the Penn internationals if you will be in saltwater at all, they cost a little more but are much more corrosion resistant. Stay away from Okuma, they are junk, you get what you pay for, thats why they are cheap.

Yesterday I bought a 1143 Loomie and a 5:1 Curado just like you, man. We must be on the same wavelength or something. I opted for the 5:1 because I am going to use this setup for huckin' spoons. I have several 6:1 Curado's and they rip fast but I have a feeling that this 5:1 is going to be killer for spoons when you have to just barely crank to give it action. If I'm wrong, then next time I'm fishing next to Reiter Rat, then I'll pull the old bait and switch and get his 6:1 Curado. I am going to baptize this new setup tomorrow on some bass down at Green Lake...NOT!!! Huh, huh, huh, he said bass.
