I've owned a driftboat for many years and enjoy pulling plugs, but I'm still not sure which ones work best under differing conditions. I've been told things like metalic finishes work best on sunny days and dark colors in dirty water. My favs on the Sky are a greenish-blue tad when the water is that perfect color and the green pirate hot shot. What water conditions would a bright orange or red color work in.

Does color play an important part or is the action of the plug more important?

Look forward to reading your replys.

Shy, I pull plugs some in my sled and have good luck on the cream/light gold wiggle wart. It produces in all water conditions, heavy-stained water or that green we all like. Like you, the green hot shot works well too.

Metallic pink and blue herringbone have been very consistent producers for me. My plug box has shrunk cosiderably from twenty years ago, and is now down to four or five finishes in different sizes. Fish with what you have confidence in.

I too have found that my plug box has gotten smaller... the majority of plugs hang on my Christmas tree

I like the tads in blue/green and pink and the Warts in red/yellow/black and green/black blue/yellow/black
Hotshots in cop car and the gold one has seemed to work well

I give the guests a choice in my drift boat when I pull plugs. If the water is anything but clear, then I let the guys/gals choose any color of plug that they want...just as long as it's pink.

Then you throw in the what river your in factor!!! Cowlitz lower by the Toutle is red, red herringbone, or blue pirates, Cowlitz upper, chrome's with either the black stripe and orange belly dot or orange stripe on the back, Chehalis pink, pink and more pink etc....and that warts work better in some rivers and hot shots better in others. I'm sure that you guys have certain colors and plug types for certain rivers too. Just to add some more confusion to the mix!!!
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff

escapee,

I have a guide friend of mine that swears by that Shordoo. He has all kinds of them and says that they kick a$$. I have been meaning to try them but I can't seem to find any stores that carry them anymore. What's the scoop??

SAUK,
Try this link for Shordoo's
http://www.fishingwholesale.com/hardbaits/p_shordoo.htm

You can get 10 shordoo bodies for 10 bucks.

And this link looks like an interesting plug to try. at 5 plugs for 5 bucks could be worth a shot. http://www.fishingwholesale.com/hardbaits/holo_diver.htm

Right on, QuikSticks. Thanks for the info. I need to try some of those babies. Sometimes it's better to have an edge on the competition by using something unique. I don't see many guys pullin' Shordoos around these days. Peace

Skydrifterdave I am convinced that the action of the plug makes a much bigger difference than the color. I have bought the same plug in the same color and had one produce consistently in various water conditions and had the other go fishless.

If anyone is interested I have a bunch of shoredu's that have never been used.

Ok, so do the shordoo's work? Oh, and Vic, howcome your wanting to dump em, hmmmmmmm. Point of concern, the 10 for 10 bucks are shallow runners, 0-4 feet. Any comments? Thanks for link.

I bought a store out on a clearance sale, I have over 50 brand new ones and somewhere along the line I realized that I will never need that many.

They work great especially the gold ones in colored water.
