I'm headed over the Mountains to visit with the wife's family and think that I will be able to find some "sneak away time" from the inlaws. They live in Burlington. Any news on the Skagit? What techniques (if different from steelheading on the Columbia and Grand Rhonde)would be appropiate? Types of bait? Areas to fish?(I don't expect many replies on this question-secret holes are taken to any good fishermans grave) Other rivers in the nearby area to fish?
Thanks for your help.

Your best bet may be to stop in and talk with the folks at the Holiday Market. I forget the exact spot but I think they're on 20 just west of I-5. They'll point you in the right general direction.

KB, The sport shop that closed was Priced Less in Sedro Wooley. I have heard rumors that it is reopening. Holiday Market is just west of I-5 on hiway 20 and the tackle shop is behind the main store.

Kevin,

I've only fished the Columbia and Ronde in the fall, when water temperaturesa are warmer. The main difference for me is that I use a floating line on the interior rivers at that season, and I use a sink tip on the Skagit for winter steelhead. If you're fishing bait or lures, fish 'em deep and slow. Most of the bait and lure anglers boon dog from a sled on the Skagit to cover a lot of water, but a few of them prowl the river banks with us fly fishermen. So if you have a boat, by all means bring it.

Good luck.

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

First off guys, Holiday is not closing and is going strong and yes, Priced Less will be re-opening under the previous owner. Not Kelly. Will hopefully be re-opened soon.
Kevin, from a guy that lives up here in Rockport on the Skagit and Sauk the fishing has been pretty good up here. If you bankin it with gear, definately try out the Cascade River up here in Marblemount. These hatchery brats up here move! Also hit the mouth of Barnaby Slough, it has also been pretty good lately. Another hot spot the last couple of weeks has been the mouth of Grandy Creek. Real good spot if Ya wanna swing a fly.
For river condition reports and fishing you can either check out the reports page at my site (Look under profile for the address) or you can call the Rockport General store and ask for Dave. The # is 360-853-8531.
Hope this helps Ya out Brah! Later and tight lines!!! SRBC!! J--<")(\(\(\)>{
