Nah, but I think it's kinda generally accepted....though I love Avid's answer of Judas Priest, they have been a giant influence on every heavy metal band since they arrived.

I like Culture Club. AT least they had some talent. And as for Purple,what Blackmore did was play neoclassical electric guitar,and Jon Lord was a fkn legend. Give Born Again a listen,it was what Ian Gillan described as the longest blackout of his life lol. Under looked Sabbath album. Also I've been cranking some Perfect Strangers lately. See I knew this would be misconstrued as who invented metal. That's not it,it's who put all the elements together to make it a complete Genre,hence the first heavy metal band,Priest.

avid - tell me what you think of Opeth. My kid just flew to Dublin and saw them in concert there. He said it kicked ass. I stayed closer to home and saw Maiden in Tacoma. They definitely kicked ass.

Nate. Love Beck, Sea Change is in my top 5 all time,no joke, Maybe top 10 lol. Also I love that COC sh!t. I got to say whats up to Pepper Keenan when I saw him in Down.
Yes I think it's universal,Ramones were the first punk band bonafide.
Dan. My friend Sarah is super into Opeth. Musically Michael Akerfelt is innovative. I had a hard time getting into them. I have been revisiting the older stuff and I really like it. They are European which for some reason makes it better lol.
