Has anyone heard, or know about reports from the Skokomish? What about access, particularly from the banks? Bummer not having a boat. Also, I saw a report on this website from the "Pennisula" river. Any idea on which one this guy meant?

The Skok has very few areas of public access below the canyon, it's mostly private property. And according to WDFW Steelhead Harvest reports not a lot of 'head are taken there.
I've fished there a couple of times, not much luck, either. It seems the tribal netting issue comes into play, again.
You'll probably have better luck elsewhere.

If I were you I would stay somewhere close to home, rather than drive 4 hours to the coast. It's been slow out there ,out of 52 boats checked on the bogie on wednesday only 4 fish were caught. They need more rain and another fresh shot of fish. The week between christmas and the new year is crazy in forks. With the heavy netting pressure there just aren't enough fish to warant the long haul. Fish the green or snoqualmie system, lot closer to go if you don't catch fish.

I guess I should also mention that the habitat at the Skok is quite sparse. There's no significant cover or structure for fish of any kind, and the food supply doesnt appear sufficient to sustain much of a natural run. This is partially due to upstream logging practices, farming activity, flooding, and fishery management.
In other words, the river is nearly dead, or at least it looks that way to me.
If the Wild Steelhead Coalition gets going strong enough, the Skok may becone a real project for the local watershed comittee.

jeff the sko is a real treasure once you learn the river. it has a flood problem but if you take the time to learn it it can be quite rewarding. exspect to invest a couple of hard seasons. if numbers is your game go some where else. but if you want a whole river to your self and a chance of multible hook ups with no one in site fish it and fish it hard. kennedy creek has a small run rite now and can be alot of fun. fish it from the falls down. the sko gets a run of spring run steelhead to boot release all nats and reward your self.

Actually, if you want a whole river to yourself, you probably would be better served by not posting its name on the BB. 'HeadHunter, you should have an email link up if you want info on the waters being named here. Nobody cares about the bigger, well-known rivers, but now I'm cringing at the names and info being posted. Thanks....

hey dan if these rivers were easy to fish and there was a bunch of will bitters, and you didnt have to hike five miles of river. i would worry about what i said about these rivers. if i see one of the guys on the bank then i know they are there for the challenge not the numerous fish. sorry if i gave out some of your secret rivers.

that guy,

I hear you. Since neither puts out any real numbers of fish, they're not exactly hot spots. And 'Head hunter, my apologies...upon re-reading the thread I see you didn't start the thread (BTW, an email link is till a good idea). I'm just trying to keep the traffic down on some water that doesn't handle pressure very well.
