Here you go, something besides fish....and good to eat also.

WDFW approves a seven-day razor clam dig in first weeks of February
OLYMPIA - Razor clam diggers can return to ocean beaches for seven days of digging beginning Feb. 6.

State shellfish managers with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) approved a dig
on evening low tides after marine toxin tests showed the clams are safe to eat.

The approved dig is for the following beaches, dates and low tides:

• February 6, Thursday, 4:40 pm -0.3 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Mocrocks

• February 7, Friday, 5:26 pm -0.9 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis

• February 8, Saturday, 6:09 pm -1.3 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Mocrocks

• February 9, Sunday, 6:51 pm -1.4 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis

• February 10, Monday, 7:32 pm -1.3 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Mocrocks

• February 11, Tuesday, 8:13 pm -0.8 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis

• February 12, Wednesday, 8:55 pm -0.1 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Mocrocks

No digging is allowed before noon for allowed digs, when low tide occurs in the evening.

Doesn’t look too bad right now may have to give a shot in a couple hours. Daylight dig. Tomorrow looks savage however.

Good luck, be sure to let us know how you do.

Myself, I'm waiting until Sunday and Monday. Obviously, theres been a ton of rain and wind the past several days and it takes a while for the surf to settle down. It will surprise me if you have an easy dig tonight. But I've been wrong before!

Surfs down right now 10/12. Supposed to increase to 18/22 tomorrow. Sustained 15/20 knot wind right now may keep the surf pushed up.

Hey Bent-
Where do you get the specifics of the surf? And by "pushed up", do you mean higher up the beach, or pushed up and not running so far up the beach?

I'm assuming by pushed up you mean higher up the beach (not draining back as quickly).
My confusion comes from being told an east wind pushes the surf up, meaning it stands the waves up vertically, causing them to crash down on the beach with much more force, causing the clams to lay low.

Is this true about an east wind? Intuitively, I would think the opposite, that a wind blowing in from offshore would cause the surf to hit the beach with greater force.

One final question, is it true that once the tide has turned the clams wont show? Is it impossible to dig a limit starting a half-hour after the low?

15 minute limit very nice grade. Total change in weather from earlier when I said it was pretty nice. THAT SUCKED! 20/30 gusting and raining sideways. Everybody was getting em pretty quickly surprisingly good shows.

Very often on the flood they start showing really well if you still in the zone.

Melanie and I went out Sunday late afternoon, started at 4:00 P.M., were done 40 minutes later. Great weather, full sun,not very cold, not much breeze coming from the east which meant the waves were pushed back some, lots of time between waves, LOTS of shows. (Quality of dig? 9.6 on a 10 scale) Bob
