Im trying to figure out the best way to make a pink Worm Fly. A long bunny leach seems to be the best I can do so far. Ive tried pipe cleaners but they have no action Ive done yarn but they suck. Show me or tell me what you have got.

Rich, what if you took a cone head, 2-3 inch of pink worm, and some pink maribou. That might look pretty good in the water.

It would look good but not very durable.

Rich,

You're probably there already. A friend of mine used to always refer to marabou streamers for steelhead as "the worm." The rabbit hair version is more durable and has a similar action in the water. What effect are you trying to achieve that you aren't getting with a bunny leach?

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

I gues the bunny leach does good enough. Im just trying to see what other people have done.

The Pink Worm is so effective Im sure there must be some good imitations out there.

I was thinking about trying a pink string leach, that may be as close as you can get.

How about a artuclated(sp) leech or like they tie up salmon leaders. Sliding hooks. You said you were open to suggestions. <img border="0" alt="[wall]" title="" src="graemlins/wall.gif" />

Rich,

How 'bout mirco chenille? Burn a taper in one end... or... something flashy like Flashabou or Angel hair. I would probably superglue the butt ends together... Another idea is like the San Juan Worm tied a slightly larger hook.

Rich,

Two more for you...

How about wrapping mirco chenille over Lavra Lace? This would give you the rear hook.. Could thread the leader through the LL.

Another option I like would be glass beads with the upper most bead in the appropriate color over brass or tungsten. My thinking here is just stringing a leader with the beads to an appropriate length and tying on a hook.. This should provided plenty of movement in the water- might be the cheapest too!

Here's a pic of a pink leech I tie. It's not on a fly hook, it's actually on a jig hook. I tie exact same pattern on a fly hook, but I usually will tie on a trailer hook for those short strikes. These are my go to fly on most OP rivers. Unweighted on a wetfly swing.

start by braiding 5 strands of thick pink chenille as tightly possible, until you have a thick ass worm length cord. Pink craft cord works well, too. NO polyyarn!

for the hook, take a cheap Mustad size 4 salmon hook, break of the hook at the bend, lash on a loop of 20lb test mono, loop on a barbless hook of your choice and wrap with 8-12 wraps of standard lead wire.

next, lash the braided chenille what worm to both the mustad shank and the dangling hook..

fish on a dead drift. make this fly heavy! any questions email me.

stay off my river.

Hi
The material you want is A 3XL zonker strip. You get it from Bow Tier. The fur is Finnish Raccoon and the fur stands three inches off of the skin. It's rumerd they are going out of business so if you find it grab it. The under fur is just fuzzy enough it wants to float so be sure to weight it.Once you see the material, you'll have no problem knowing what to do with.

The 3xl Bowtyer rocks!!!! I just last a long piece to a heavy wire steelhead hook such as the TMC 7999, 7931 or AJ 1 1/2 Heavy Wire or Steelhead Irons...tie it zonker/matuka style and you are good to go.

Just be sure to add some lead, a conehead or a large set of bead chains eyes as this stuff is extremelly bouyant...want to get it down!

Rich,
The fish in the avatar was taken on exactly what you are trying to create. I used marabou for the tail, large cactus chenile for the body and a few wraps of x-cut bunny for the collar. I've varied the design over the years with the same stuff everybody else mentioned. Was just admiring the way the fly looked and moved in the water the other day...lotsa wiggle.

Take the eyes off and you got the fly version of these little doozies. Fine Pink Chenille worked nice for small ones(2nd from right). Marribou works great on all sizes. Or hackle maribou to a pink yarn body or rubber worm(2 on left).
