Is it worth spending $130 on a spare spool for a Ross BG4? I have a running line with a sink tip section on it now. But if I want to use a dry line I use my old medalist.

I guess that depends on two things: Do you have $130 to spend, and how well do you like using the old Medalist? I think Ross makes a fine reel at an attractive price. I've been considering one myself, except that I don't really need any more reels, rods, etc.

Sincerely,

I guess I don't like not using the Ross when the conditions call for a dry line. I buy a nice reel and then it sits in my pack.

Hi OB

The way I look at it is a time thing. Time on the river is precious. I would think changing a spool is a little quicker than changing a whole reel.

The other option would be to buy a Rio Versi tip line. Then all you would have to do is change the tip to whatever section matched the water conditions. I think you could get that line and most of the spare tips you would need for $130.

Good Luck

I have found over the years that I find it less bother to change the reel in lew of the spool.
I have carry an extra reel with me in case of failure . I do this in not wanting to loose time with the fish.
Thanks for your support evil
